Down Day

Well, today was just a down day for us. I had to go to a doctor's appointment this morning, then to the bank. I was suppose to go to the post office, but passed up the exit. I have only lived here all my life. So on to plan B...I came on home and it was about lunchtime, so picked up hungry husband and off we went.

He had been wanting to get the book, Camping with the Corp of Engineers. "Thanks, Karon" so we went to Barnes and Nobles and Borders. No luck, so we decided to have lunch at Chick-fil-A. Yum, yum. Then we made a stop at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Didn't find what we were looking for there either. Now it is time to get to the post office. Thank goodness, there was no one there because I had 6 boxes to mail. Mark had just been there on Saturday with 10 boxes. All those special order scrapbooks I got from College Station during parent's weekend. Let me just tell you postage is almost as bad as fuel! $30.00 for mailing 6 boxes. Well, the good part of all this is that I have 16 orders down and only 7 more to go...

Enough about that...then it was on to pick up number 1 and 2 grandchildren from school. They go to the same school where our daughter teaches, so when we got there, they didn't want to come with us, they wanted to stay with Aunt KK and hang out with their friends. So, that was an empty run, well, I can't say that, we came home with one backpack and a very fragile art project.
It wasn't long however, until, Aunt KK dropped them off just in time for snacks before "Momma J" came to pick them up.

Then it was dinner time. We had just finished dinner when my mother-in-law called, she is 81, and told us that she had tried to remove something from an electrical outlet with her screwdriver and now she has NO electricity. Go figure. So Mark is off to see about what she has done.

Back to the book, Camping with the Corp of Engineers, that we started looking for today, it is not to be found. So, I came home and looked online for it, finally ended up ordering it from the publisher. If anyone is interested, I got it from Cottage Publications. The latest is the 7th edition.

Thought I would come and post before chat time, my children say I am addicted and that I should be careful who I talk to over the Internet. I assured them I was, and with that, I will just say, so much for our down day and see you guys tonight online.

until tonight.
Thanks mom I need help with all these presents.

Wow, a lot of folks came to help me celebrate. This birthday stuff is fun, but...
Not as good as the cake!

RV Dreams Rally Here We Come

I did it...I got us signed up for the RV Dreams Rally. We are really looking forward to meeting up with everyone in Branson. I know we are going to have a great time and will come away from the rally with new friendships. Now, I just have to decide what to bring to the pot-luck dinner!

Happy Birthday Caden

First of all I have to say Happy Birthday to our grandson, Caden. Today is his first birthday. He is number 4 of our 5 grandchildren.
Today was spent getting all of the sand and salt off of the motor home. This is were we hang out when we are not on the road. Actually, we have been hanging out here for some 35 years. I have been trying to get all of the washing done, sorting mail, etc. Since we are going to be here for a few weeks I am going to try to restore some of the pictures that I deleted from our previous trips.

Yesterday, we left Port Aransas, via the ferryboat. What a great week we had. Lot of sand and sun and great fellowship with friends. But I was very excited to be heading toward Cedar Ridge Park in Temple, TX were we were to meet up with Karon and her DH whom we had met on the chat from RV Dreams. However, at Schulenburg, we almost had to make a plan B and detour to San Antonio to Southern Plains, the Cummins dealer, as the motor home was not acting quite right. After we stopped and brainstormed a little, we decided to put in some new fuel and see if that made a difference. We did and it did. So we were back to our original plan.
We finally arrived at Cedar Ridge, what a beautiful park. First thing we met Karon and her DH and felt as we had known them forever. After a brief introduction we got the MH all set up and then settled in for a good visit. We could only stay for one evening, but made the most of our time.
This was the view of the lake from behind our motor home.
This is Karon, Mark, and in the green shirt, our friend Donnie.

This morning we were all up and got in another visit before having to pack up and head for home. I wasn't ready to leave, but then again, I am never quite ready for a trip to be over. We are looking forward to catching up with Karon and DH down the road. How nice to know that at the end of the trip, we came home with two new friends!

This was the winning sculpture at Sand fest.
It was called Turning Over A New Leaf.

This one was the third place winner.

This has been a great week. We not only have had fun on the beach at the festival, but have had a great visit with several other couples. We are also looking forward to stopping tomorrow at Cedar Ridge Park and getting to meet some fellow RV Dreamers, Karon and DH.
Hold that spot Karon, we're on our way!

We won't have any wi-fi again until Tuesday when we are back to Fort Worth. Happy blogging until then.

This morning we woke up to a beautiful, warm and not windy day. It was off to another day at sand fest. These sculptures are just amazing to me. I just can't imagine taking a pile of sand and ending up with a work of art. What talent! And these are not even finished.
We will be going back this evening to see the progress that has been made throughout the day.
This is a must for everyone's calendar. It is always around this time of the year. I also understand that there is another one in October at South Padre Island, TX. We have had so much fun, I might have to add that one to my calendar as well.
A work in progress. Check back to see the finished sculpture.

Texas Sandfest 2008

This week we are in Port Aransas, Texas, at the Texas Sandfest. We are enjoying the almost warm weather even though the wind never stops blowing. The sandfest activities are just now getting underway for the weekend competition.
We were down on the beach yesterday and they were building the "welcome" sculpture. The other sculptures will be built today and tomorrow for judging on Sunday. We were told that this sculpture is built by amatures...I can hardly wait to see what the professionals do!

Welcome To Our Blogspot...we are Mark and Dortha. We have been rving since 1996, but have pretty much been full-timing since Mark's retirement from the Fort Worth Fire Department in 2001. We live in our motor home and base in Fort Worth where we still have a house. At this time our daughter and her family live in our house and we live in the back when we are home.
We have 3 children and 5 grandchildren who all live in the Fort Worth area. Both of our moms are still living, so we are in and out of town often checking on family.

Thanks for traveling with us...
We hope you enjoy our journeys as much as we do and we look forward to your comments.
