The Fun Continues

Yesterday was a beautiful sunny day, but, the temps still demanded the need for a jacket.  We had made plans with Mac and Lynette and they were to pick us up around 10:30.  Mac needed to go back out to the flea market to exchange an awning strap and I wanted to look for a red and green bead for my bracelet and a couple of spacers.  Mac and I quickly took care of our business.  Now, let’s see…we all found the kettle corn, Lynette and I purchased several jars of spices, Mark bought a pizza cutter and Lynette got a grapefruit knife.

We spent the rest of the morning and part of the afternoon walking around looking at all the old stuff that only a flea market can offer.  All that walking and we worked up a real appetite.  So, from the the market we decided to check out the Chinese Buffet.  It was really good, especially the baked salmon.  YUM

Afterwards, we decided to take a drive out to Canyon RV Park.  This is where Marvin (Smokey Bear) and Karen are staying.  Mac and Lynette have already had the privilege of meeting these folks and told us they were great fun.  It is always nice to get to put a face with names.  Mark and Marvin hit it off right fast, as they are both retired fireman and Karen and I chatted about our grandchildren.

After a great visit, it was time for us to head back to our own parks.  We look forward to more visits with Marvin and Karen over the next several weeks.

Today is Monday and that means I need to do laundry.  This morning, the sun was out for a brief moment and then disappeared.  However, the temperature is a little warmer than yesterday.  There is rain in the forecast for the next several days….hopefully it will stay to a shower or two or nothing.

When we got home last night there were emails from Ginger and Kathy who are already are in the process of making plans for some new adventures this week.  I guess we will all see how they unfold.

A Memory or Two

Yesterday was a frightful weather day.  It was cold and colder and we did not budge from the warmth of the motor home.  Again, last night, Mark made sure we had water in the tanks and the hoses were disconnected.  Sure enough this morning, the water was frozen, but the sun was shinning and the temperature was slowly rising.  This looks like it is going to be a good day.

We had a leisure morning before heading out to meet up with Mac and Lynette.  We picked them up at their park and drove over to

Port Isabel.  There we met up with Nolan, Donna, and Nolan’s sister, Leona, and brother in law, Jerry.

We had a great seafood lunch at

Pirates Landing.  After resisting

these goodies, we headed across the

Queen Isabella Causeway to South Padre Island.

The two-mile long Queen Isabella Causeway is the only road connecting the island to the mainland. The Causeway was opened in 1974.

The Causeway is the longest bridge in Texas, stretching 2.37 miles across the Laguna Madre.

Once we were on the

island, we located the convention center where the

market and craft show was being held.  We had a fun afternoon  shopping.  Lynette and I came away with a few fun jewelry items, but we made Mac and Mark leave some silly hats behind.

When we were shopped out, we headed to the beach where we found this guy

having some fun in the sun and wind.  Then, we took

a drive down the gulf side.  It was way too cold for us to walk on the beach today, so I will have to save putting my toes in the water until another day.

This little guy was the only brave one out today. And he was running really fast.

We stopped in at the Dairy Queen for a treat before heading

back across the causeway into Port Isabel.

This was a special day trip for me, because this is where my grandparents lived for 27 years.  When they moved here in 1968, this was a tiny little fishing town and there was nothing on the island but sand.  Over the years we have watched it grow into the popular tourist destination it is today.  I think if my grandparents could see it today, they would shake their head in disbelief.

On our way out of town, we stopped to take this picture of

their old house and neighborhood.  What fun we have all had here as a family.  I could almost smell the fresh apple cakes that I know would have been baking in the oven!

What a nice day we had in the sun with friends.  It was a beautiful day to reminisce a little and to make a new memory or two.

Who Turned Off The Sun?

We woke this morning to 53 degrees.  With the knowledge that the cold weather that most of you have already experienced was going to be here soon, we decided to head out for a couple of errands and some groceries.

As we drove down the street here at the park,

these guys too, were trying to finish working before the rain and cold arrived.

We made our way on to town with the first stop being

at one of my favorite stores.  I had a little Christmas money I want to try to spend.  But, after a little browsing around, I decided to wait until they restocked from the holidays.

Then, it was on for a quick stop at Bed Bath and Beyond where I needed to purchase a new broom and mop.

I must have taken too long making up my mind because by the time I got back to check out and started out the door…

the weather had certainly taken a turn for the worse.

Oh, well, guess, we won’t let a little rain and cold get the best of us.  We then headed west to one of

Mark’s favorite stores.  He was shopping for a couple of new water hoses, but didn’t find what he was looking for.  But, I did get myself a new little step stool.  I had one, but Caden thought he needed it more than Moppa. LOL

From Camping World we made a stop at Wendy’s for bowl of chili before tackling HEB for groceries.  And, oh, my…I think everyone in South Texas was at HEB.  They needed crowd control in the produce section and the isles needed one-way signs with stop lights at the end.  I was never so glad to get of any store.  I just hoped I had gotten every thing I needed.

By this time the rain had stopped, but the temperatures were getting colder.  We were glad to be back to the motor home and settled in for the rest of the night.

While I put away groceries, Mark filled the fresh water tank and will disconnect the water as we are anticipating freezing temps tonight.

We snuggled in and enjoyed

homemade pizza for dinner while waiting for the Texas – Alabama football game to start.

Tomorrow’s temperatures will not be out of the 30’s, so maybe I will spend the day

in the clubhouse at the weight room and library.  I will be glad when this cold weather is out to sea!

Shopping at the Flea Market

After getting up really early for the last two mornings, today we decided to sleep in.  I think we were finally up by 8:00.  I guess that was sleeping in.

  After breakfast, showers, and a little computer time, we called Mac and Lynette to see if they wanted to go with us to the Don Wes Flea Market.  Maybe Donna and Nolan would want to go as well.

We made a plan and headed out about 11:00 to meet up at Mac and Lynette’s.  They were ready when we arrived, but Donna wasn’t feeling well today and decided she would stay at the RV Park.  Hope you are feeling better Donna.

The Flea Market is someplace we like to go and kick around and just be outside, and today was a beautiful day for being outside as we are still a day away from the cold front that is heading this way.

This was Mac and Lynette’s

first trip to the Market…hope they have fun.

The Market is located on Business 83 in Donna.  The vendors

set up every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to sell their wares.  Some have new items…some old and used items…and some have handmade items.

We munched on Kettle Corn while looking up and down every isle.

Mark

   found some new bungee cords.

I found several things, like this

cute lid to fit on my Dr. Pepper can.  And, this

great little vegetable peeler.  Yes, Weldon, tell Sandy…I will get her one too!!

If you get tired of shopping, you can rest at

the pavilion and listen to live music.  Or…you can

enjoy some homemade ice cream that has been churned in this unique ice cream freezer.  We resisted, but maybe next time we will try some.

With all of our purchases, we headed across the street to the local produce market.  They are open everyday and have some really great

fruits and veggies to choose from.  Today, we got watermelon, squash, cabbage, and oranges.  I am sure we will be back many times to shop here.

After a full day, we stopped at Cheddar’s for a late lunch/early dinner before heading back to the RV Park to

  sort out all of our purchases.

What a great day in the warm sun with friends.  Thanks Mac and Lynette for lunch and a fun day.  Can’t wait until next Wednesday.

On To Retama Village

As I left off yesterday, we were having a great day.  We had an uneventful trip even as we traveled through

Austin and

San Antonio.

We made our way to I-37 around 4:00 which was a perfect time to find our stopping stop for the night.  We had reservations at

Brauning Lake RV Park.  It is a Passport America Park and was a nice place to stay.  It was certainly an easy on – easy off park with level sites, and good wifi.

We settled in for the evening and tried to help the TCU Horned Frogs score a win over Boise State, but they came up a little short on the scoreboard.  But, even with the loss, they ended up with a 13-1 season.  Way to go Frogs!

This morning we were up by 6:30 and leisurely got things together for travel.  We only had about 250 miles to go today so we weren’t in a big hurry.  However, we soon we had

everything in it’s place and ready to pull out by around 9:00. Again today we were thankful for an uneventful trip.

Even though it was pretty overcast all day, I

was soon reminded by this palm tree that we were going to a warmer place.

We made a stop in Edinburg for fuel and from there it was just a short trip on to

Retama Village and

our home for the next couple of months.

We were soon greeted by Jack and Danielle Mayer, the owners of this site.  They are staying in another one of their sites, just down the street from us.  And, although we didn’t see them today, Mike and Pat McFall are right now the street from us in the other direction.  We certainly look forward to getting to visit with them soon.

After getting the motor home set up and cleaned up both inside and out, it was time for us get ourselves cleaned up.  Mac and Lynnette and Nolan and Donna are staying at Seven Oaks RV Park about 2 miles from here and they had invited

us over for dinner.  Thanks guys dinner was great and so was the visit.

All too soon this day came to an end, but not before we made plans for some great adventures.  So, I guess you will have to stay tuned to see how those plans unfold.

It’s A Skippidy Doo Da Day

Shine on me sunshine, walk with me Lord, I’m the happiest girl in the whole USA…it’s a skipidy do da day!

After our extended stay in Fort Worth, a great visit with family, and a wonderful holiday season, it is time for us to head out.  As Mark says…it’s time to slosh the diesel!  So, today starts our adventure for 2010.

So, wake up sleepy head…just one more minute…but no!  We were up by 5:30 and by 7:00 Mark had the jacks up and the slides pulled in.  He needed to pull out for  a 7:30 appointment at Cummins to take care of a recall on the motor home.  It was something about a blow-by adjustment.  All checked out good and no adjustment was needed.  From there he was off to get the yearly inspection done.  While he was off taking care of motor home business, I took care of a few errands of my own.  We finished at about the same time and decided that before we hooked up the jeep, we would go for a late breakfast.  And, a yummy one it was, eggs and ham, biscuits and gravy.  That should carry us through for most of the day.

While enjoying breakfast, we talked and finalized our day’s travel plan.  We decided that we were getting away early enough to drive to the Southside of San Antonio.  We will plan to spend the night at Brauning Lake RV Park.  This is a Passport America park and an easy on and off.  It will also put us on the other side of San Antonio and out of the rush hour traffic come in the morning.  Tomorrow should be an easy drive on to Retama Village in Mission, Texas.

We have rented a site from Jack and Danielle Mayer for January and February.  We are looking forward to warmer days and lots of fun adventures with friends.

For now it sounds like we are set for the day.  I have a great driver, God is our co-pilot, and I am enjoying the ride.  The sunshine is beautiful and I am having a a skippidy doo da day.
