Taking Care of Business...

"Do what you have to do and then you can do what you want to do."

Today, was one of those days... we just needed to stop and take care of some of those things that just have to be done.

First errand...a trip to the Post Office.  After making a couple of trips up and down Main Street and the GPS on my Droid assuring me..."you have arrived", we finally found it...inside the

Maine 002

hardware store.

While I was in the post office, Mark went into the Car Quest just next door to purchase

Maine 003

a new set of windshield wipers.

Next on the list...Tim Horton's,

Maine 005

for a new supply of coffee.  I don't know what he is going to do for this coffee when he leaves the Northeast.  Guess we will have to have it shipped in from Canada.  Or...find another brand.

Okay, maybe, we can sneak in a little fun while we are marking things off the list.  So, while in Bangor, we located this really old fire station...now a

Maine 008

Fire Museum.  However, they are only open on Saturday or by appointment.

So, then we were off through

Maine 012

downtown Bangor to find

Maine 019

Paul Bunyan.

This is the largest Paul Bunyan statue in the world. He is 31' tall and weighs 3,700 pounds.  There is a time capsule in the base that was sealed in 1959 and not due to be opened until  2084.

It stands facing the Penobscot River.  It is a legendary giant woodsman and is a symbol of the great era in the late 1800's when Bangor, Maine was acclaimed to be the lumber capital of the world.

On the way back to the motor home we stopped in at a truck stop that was known to have a good restaurant.  We were both hungry for a hamburger and this was suppose to be a good choice.  I have to say it was only so-so.

Once we were back to the campground, it was back to that stuff we have to do...so I gathered the dirty clothes and headed to the laundry.  When I was finished with that job, I started in on the dusting and the vacuuming, and the mopping.  Then, my final  job for the day was the ironing.

While I was busy with all those jobs, Mark had a few jobs of his own.  I think they included visiting with the neighbor and taking a nap.

Well, I am glad to report that we have done what we have to do and now...we can get back to doing what we want to do!

  1. You can find Tim Horton's in several locations...usually in with a Wendy's...bad thing for me...is that the closest one to me is 6 hours away!
